Liverpool Personalised Football Calendars
Fantastic Gift Idea for Fans of the Reds!
Liverpool FC is one of the most successful football clubs in England and one of the most accomplished teams in Europe. By the time Bill Shankly was appointed manager in 1959, the Reds had won five First Division titles, but had been relegated to the Second Division. ‘Shanks’ resurrected the side and he put in place a winning mentality and a series of traditions that have lasted to the present day. Shankly introduced the all-red kit and the Liverpool boot-room and he put up the now-famous “This is Anfield" sign in the players’ tunnel. Under Shankly’s management, Liverpool won three First Division titles, two FA Cups and the 1973 UEFA Cup.
Shankly announced his retirement in 1974, but assistant manager Bob Paisley took over and the Reds’ success continued. Liverpool won six First Division championships and three League Cups with Paisley. The Reds also won three European Cups in the space of just five years. Liverpool has since maintained a reputation for being one of the top teams in European competition. Many classic Champions League nights have taken place at Anfield and Rafael Benitez led the team through an incredible campaign in 2005, culminating in what many describe as the best European final of all time. Liverpool beat AC Milan on penalties following an incredible comeback from 3-0 down.
Our Personalised Liverpool Calendars feature twelve reproduced match reports from our extensive newspaper archives, including European ties, domestic cup wins and title-winning league games. Written by journalists who were there at the time, this A3 Calendar is a terrific gift idea for any fan of the Reds.
Calendar Highlights
The Personalised Liverpool Calendar opens with the 2-0 win against Leeds United in 1973, which guaranteed the Reds’ their eighth First Division title. This fantastic victory would be the final league triumph for the club under Bill Shankly. The A3 Calendar additionally features the title-winning games of 1979 and 1988.
The Calendar Gift also celebrates some of the club’s most impressive cup wins. Coverage begins with the 3-1 victory against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the 1977 European Cup final. This was the Reds’ first European Cup victory and Liverpool would defend their title the following year. The Calendar also features the incredible final of 2005, which Liverpool won against AC Milan on penalties. It seemed as though the club was out of the match when they found themselves three goals down at half time, but three Liverpool goals in the space of six second-half minutes contributed to one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the European Cup.
Domestic cup finals featured in the Liverpool Diary Gift include the 1-0 win against rivals Everton in the 1984 League Cup final replay and the 3-2 victory against the Toffees in the 1989 FA Cup final. This FA Cup contest was a poignant occasion for both Merseyside teams, as it followed the Hillsborough tragedy, which had taken place at the semi-final stage. The Football Calendar also incorporates the FA Cup win of 2001 - which completed a famous ’treble’ of League Cup, UEFA Cup and FA Cup victories - and the dramatic FA Cup final win against West Ham in 2006.
