Reading Personalised Football Calendar

A Unique Gift Idea For Reading Fans!

Reading FC, formed in 1871, were originally nicknamed 'The Biscuit Men' in reference to Reading's famous Huntley and Palmers biscuits. For many years, the club only played friendly and cup matches. In 1913, the Royals travelled to Italy for an exhibition tour. After beating AC Milan 5-0, Reading FC went on to defeat the Italian national team and then the national champions, Pro Vercelli, by the incredible scoreline of 6-0. The Italians were impressed and soon proclaimed Reading to be 'the finest foreign team seen in our country.' It was a great confidence boost for the club and a few years later, the Royals turned professional and joined the national leagues. In 2006, Reading FC reached the top flight for the first time in the club's history. The team had earned promotion from the Championship in style with a record thirty-three match unbeaten streak, a record number of points won and the earliest ever qualification.

Our Personalised Reading Calendars include match reports from some of the best games the club has played over the past fifty years. Starting from the month of your choice and featuring both the Simod Cup win and the club's promotion to the Premiership, this A3 Calendar is a fantastic gift for any fan of the Royals.

Calendar Highlights

These Personalised Reading FC Calendars begin in 1961 with the impressive 3-6 league win against Queen Park Rangers. We also include the 3-1 victory against Chelsea FC from 1987, before focus shifts to the historic Simod Cup final that Reading contested in 1988. The Full Members Cup, as the competition was also known, had been set up in 1985 due to English football clubs being banned from European competition following the Heysel tragedy. Chelsea were frequent winners of this cup, but in 1988 the Royals went on a remarkable run, beating Luton Town 4-1 at Wembley to win the trophy.

The cup success was a huge boost for Reading, but it was tainted by relegation to the Third Division in the league. The Royals had struggled during the 1980s, but in 1990, John Madeski bought the club and he was determined that things would improve. In 1995, Reading beat Tranmere 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals of the Division Two play-off finals. Although the club would go on to lose to Bolton Wanderers in the final, the A3 Calendar soon features further league success.

In 2002, Jamie Cureton scored a vital goal for Reading to ensure a 1-1 draw against Brentford and automatic promotion into the Championship. The Royals were determined to reach the top flight for the first time in the club's history and the team qualified for the Championship play-off finals in the very next season. In 2006, Reading FC finally achieved Premiership status. This was confirmed following a 5-0 demolition of Derby County and the report on this match is one of the highlights of our Calendar Gift. We also include the 2-5 win against Cardiff City that was played the following week, as fans and players continued to celebrate Reading's historic promotion.
