In addition to these unique football records, Birmingham FC have enjoyed much team success over the past hundred years. We have searched through our newspaper archives to find match reports on some of the best and most significant Birmingham City wins from the club’s history and we have reproduced twelve of our favourites in our Personalised Birmingham City Diaries. Presented in a convenient A5 size, these smart Football Diaries are a brilliant buy for any Blue!
Diary Features
The match reports featured in this Football Diary Gift go back to 1931, when the Blues beat Chelsea 3-0 to reach their primary FA Cup final. Although on this occasion they would go on to lose to West Bromwich Albion, the A5 Diary soon skips to further Cup success in 1946, when the club forced a semi-final replay against league champions Derby.
In addition to highs and lows in the Cup competitions, Birmingham City has also experienced a mixed time in the English Leagues; often achieving promotion, but also regularly facing relegation. The lows were a difficult period for supporters, but we have dug up stories about some terrific matches that brightened these periods, including the 3-1 victory over Arsenal in 1980 and the much enjoyed 3-0 thrashing of fierce rivals Aston Villa in 1982.
The best thing about relegation is that subsequent promotion feels even sweeter! Therefore, some of the greatest articles contained in this Birmingham FC Diary are reports on the promotion-clinching matches of 1955, 1972, 1985 and 1992. Details about these games are sure to bring back fond memories for every fan of the Blues and they are a fascinating read for newer supporters who are keen to learn more about the club‘s most successful moments!
