Leeds United Personalised Football Diaries
Fabulous Diary Gifts for Leeds United Fans!
Leeds United formed in 1919 following the disbanding of Leeds City FC. The club moved between the football leagues throughout the first fifty years and began to struggle financially. Captain Don Revie was appointed player-manager in 1961 and he turned the club’s fortunes around. Leeds United returned to the top flight in 1964 and the team finished inside the top four for the next nine years. During this successful period, United won two First Division championships, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, the FA Cup and the League Cup. Revie’s team also finished as runners-up in the league five times and the club reached many cup finals, including the final of the 1975 European Cup.
Leeds United began a second golden era at the end of the 1980s. United had endured a turbulent time since the departure of Revie in 1975, with a high turnover of managers. Howard Wilkinson led the team back to the First Division in 1990 and United won the title in 1992. George Graham took over as manager in 1996 and Leeds qualified for the UEFA Cup. David O’Leary became the next boss in 1998. Under O’Leary, Leeds United consistently finished in the top five. Leeds also reached the semi-final of the UEFA Cup in 2000 and the semi-final of the Champions League in 2001.
