West Ham Personalised Football Diary
Unique Diary Gifts for Fans of the Hammers!
West Ham United was originally founded as Thames Ironworks FC in 1895. The club reformed as West Ham United in 1900 and the Hammers have since won multiple FA Cups and the European Cup Winners’ Cup. West Ham’s crest features a pair of crossed hammers and a castle. The hammers are a reference to the iron and shipbuilding industry that the club originated from and the castle represents Green Street House, which is a local building in the London borough of Newham. The building was nicknamed Boleyn Castle, as this is where Henry VIII allegedly courted Anne Boleyn. West Ham’s stadium is also linked to the former Queen of England, as the official name of the ground is The Boleyn Park. However, it is now more commonly known as Upton Park..
Our Personalised West Ham Diaries feature twelve match reports from our newspaper archives, which were written by respected sports journalists who attended the games in person. Starting from the month of your choice, this is a great gift idea for any fan of the Hammers.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised West Ham Diaries feature a fantastic selection of games from a variety of competitions, starting with the FA Cup. The Hammers won this famous competition in 1964, 1975 and 1980. A total of thirty players were used over these three games and only one of them, Ray Stewart, was not English. West Ham FC fielded an all-English team in the victorious 1975 final and no other club has matched this feat since. With such a large presence of international players in English football, this record is likely to stand for a very long time. The 1980 victory was also a special achievement for the Hammers, as the club was not playing in the First Division at the time.
The FA Cup win in 1964 earned the club a place in the European Cup Winners’ Cup for the following season and West Ham went on to win the tournament. The A5 Diary features a match report on the 4-3 win against FC Lausanne in the quarter-finals and the incredible 2-0 victory against Bayern Munich in the final. The Hammers reached the final of this competition again in 1976. West Ham would lose this game to Anderlecht, but our Diary Gift features a match report on the first leg of the semi-finals against Eintracht Frankfurt. West Ham lost 2-1, but the club knocked the German side out of the competition following a 3-1 win at home. This tie remains a classic for fans of the Hammers, largely due to the incredible atmosphere in both games.
Our Personalised West Ham Diary also incorporates the 7-0 thrashing of Leeds United in the 1965 League Cup and a variety of special league fixtures. These include the promotion-clinching games of 1993 and 2005, against Cambridge United and Preston North End respectively. We also cover other exciting performances, such as the 5-0 win against Charlton FC. A highlight of this game was the audacious back heel flick by fan favourite Paulo Di Canio. This was deflected into the net for West Ham’s final goal.
