Celtic Memorabilia and Gift Ideas

GoneDigging has a fabulous range of personalised Celtic merchandise, including unique memorabilia and great gift ideas. Below you will find a selection of our most popular Celtic gifts, in addition to a few interesting facts about the Bhoys.

Brief History of Celtic FC

Celtic FC was formed at St. Mary’s Church Hall by Irish Marist, Brother Walfrid, in 1887. The club was intended to raise funds for the Poor Children’s Dinner Table charity and Brother Walfrid named the team ‘Celtic’ to reflect its Irish and Scottish roots. The Bhoys played their first official match against Rangers in 1888 and won the “friendly encounter" 5-2. The two clubs, known collectively as the Old Firm, have since developed one of the most fiercely contested rivalries in sport. Celtic has won over ninety major honours, including the European Cup and more than forty domestic league championships. With the exception of the 1940s, the Bhoys have won at least one major trophy in every decade since the club was founded. Celtic struggled briefly with financial difficulties and form in the 1990s, but the team began to dominate Scottish football once again in the new millennium.

Did you know…

Celtic FC is commonly known as “The Bhoys". The letter ‘h’ is included to capture the Irish accent of the club’s original fanbase. The team is also regularly called “The Hoops", which is a reference to Celtic’s green and white hooped shirt.

In 1967, Celtic became the first British team to win the European Cup. The Bhoys beat Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon, and in doing so, became the first club to win the competition using a team of home-grown players. Every player had been born within an eleven-mile radius of Celtic Park and were collectively nicknamed “The Lisbon Lions" following the European victory.

The original Celtic Park was built in1888, but the club built a new ground across the street in 1892 due to an unreasonable increase in rent. The new stadium was so impressive that a journalist commented it was “like moving from a graveyard to paradise." As a result, Celtic Park has since been nickname St. Paradise. Also known as Parkhead, in reference to location, Celtic Park is the largest stadium in Scotland, with the third largest capacity in the United Kingdom.

Celtic Memorabilia

We offer an exciting range of Personalised Celtic Gifts, which include various items of club memorabilia. These presents can be kept for years to come and they are a terrific idea for any fan of the club.

Our Personalised Celtic Football Book incorporates a variety of match reports from domestic and European competitions. Written by journalists who were there at the time, this reproduced newspaper coverage forms a fascinating record of the biggest games in the club’s history.

The Football Book opens with Celtic’s incredible 5-0 win against Rangers in the 1925 Scottish Cup semi-final. Many Scottish Cup final wins are also featured, including the 4-0 victory against

Rangers in 1969 and the 6-1 thrashing of Hibernian in 1972, in addition to various League Cup triumphs. Other highlights include a report on the historic 2-1 win against Inter Milan in the 1967 European Cup final and a selection of title-winning league games. We also incorporate some exciting high-scoring matches, including the stunning 7-1 win over Rangers in 1957, the 9-0 drubbing of Kokkola in 1970 and the 4-1 defeat of Aberdeen in 1977. The Celtic book contains articles on the appointment and death of former manager Jock Stein. Recent coverage includes the stunning 2-1 victory against AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League.

Twelve of the best match reports are also featured in our Personalised Celtic Diary and Personalised Celtic Calendar. These gifts are smartly presented and can start from the month of your choice.

Our Celtic Season Books feature a more in-depth record of a particular season. The high-quality A4 books will take you through all the key events of your chosen campaign. They include reproduced reports on European and domestic cup competitions, in addition to the twists and turns of the fight for the Scottish Premiership League title. Newspaper coverage also incorporates significant events off the field and interviews with the Celtic players.

If you are interested in commemorating the current season, why not sign up to My Celtic Football Year? This service allows you to create a customised season book at any time, with the option of editing match reports, statistics and photographs from every Celtic game. At the end of the season you will receive your professionally printed and bound book, with up to two hundred pictures included.
